I never personally “met” Perla, but have known of her talents and woth to the Crissy doll world, for quite some time. What a HUGE loss. I’m devastated, as is the majority of the Crissy world. I moderate the biggest yahoo Crissy group. A photo album in Perla’s honor has been created, so group members who own a Highway Dolls creation can post pics to that album. I am sad for myself, that I never met Perla, sad for the Crissy world that they lost such a talent and friend, and mostly sad for her family. They are in my prayers. Perla will always remain in the hearts of many. IF family wishes to view photos of Perla’s creations, placed on the group’s site, let me know, and I will give you access to the group.

The members of the international group Only One Crissy would like to express our sincere condolences to Perla’s family and friends. I know I as well as other members of this group are fortunate to have corresponded and or purchased some of Perla’s creations. What a beautiful lady and such a loss we all feel. Unfortunately, I never got to meet her in person. I missed the get together at Beth’s. I have so many of her adorable outfits in my collection and I treasure them dearly.

My condolences go out to the family. May they find comfort in each other knowing she brought smiles across the miles to so many others.

May God bless you and give you comfort at this time.

    An Irish Funeral Prayer

    Death is nothing at all.
    It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
    Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
    There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

I’ve never met Perla online or in person, but she looks like she was a lovely lady in her pictures. I am also not lucky enough to own one of her creations. My condolences to her family that has loved and lost a precious member, as well as her Crissy family that was fortunate enough to have known her.

What a sad day it became when I learned of Perla’s passing. We met at the GGT in 2003 and her love of life and willingness to share her incredible talent will always be one of my fondest memories. My deepest sympathies to her beautiful daughter Tara. her fiance Greg, the rest of her family and all her dear friends. The Crissy world has indeed lost one of it’s brightest stars.

On June 25, the angels were especially busy. That was the day of at least 3 great artists passing – Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and Perla. All wonderful artists who touched the hearts of many. While I lost touch with Perla in the recent years, she made many wonderful outfits for my dolls when I was a new collector – both Crissy and Alta Moda, and I have many of her outfits in storage. I will need to get them out – they are just precious. She was such a gifted and sweet person. I am shocked to hear of her passing, and send my condolences to Greg and Tara, whom I have not met. I will miss her always, and agree with the comments above – the Crissy collecting world and world in general will not be the same without her. May she rest in peace and God bless her for providing us with her gifts. KK

As I was looking at Beths new website I learned Of Perlas passing on November 20th. I havent been on the computer as much as I used to and have been busy with so many other things. Life can be so hectic.

I feel so lucky to have met such a wonderful, giving person. I called her
“My Crissy Sister”. It all started when I won an auction of hers and asked if she ever made clothes for Cinnamon. Of course she did, and would whip something right up. She sent pics and I happily purchased these.

After chatting online I asked where she lived and it was in Lancaster.
That is just so close to me that it would be a shame not to meet and
have a “dolly day” as she put it. It was such a great memory for me.
I brought my daughter (Sydney) with me. She was about
    four at the time.
Sometimes Perla would come over to my house. One day she showed
me how to reroot a doll. Everytime I reroot I think of her. This has never changed.

As the months went by we decided it would be fun to go the Beths
Groovy-Get-Together 2003 in Georgia. Boy, we sure had alot of laughs. I remember Tara was just 14 and went with us. We met alot of great people who all share a love for Crissy and her family of dolls.
Perla gave everyone an outfit for their Crissy doll and I can still hear
the room full of cheers and excitement over this. Everyone was clapping and hugging each other. What a thoughtful gift.

My outfit is on a rerooted Crissy which is proudly standing in front of other dollies. She has been holding her position there for many years.

I remeber Perla showed us a pic of a reroot she had just finished.
She was a beauty of a doll and I just LOVED her butterfly outfit and
told Perla so. A couple of days later, you guessed it, she had sent me
the outfit. All I could do was cry…..there she was sharing her talent again….

I hope I havent rambled on too much….Im so lucky to have met Perla
and will cheerish her forever in my heart. I wish we hadnt lost touch.

If Tara, Ryan or Greg would contact me I would feel honored. My email is Hiimjod @aol.com. Notice the two ii.

I am so sorry for your loss. Life wont be as GROOVY without dear Perla.
    Sincerely,
    Jody O in California

Sorry so late my condolences to tara and Greg.I won’t forget Perla either. I remember my first get together at Beth’s it was Perla’s too. It was such a great time! How sweet she and Tara were. Perla made me laugh she was always joking. Such talent! I loved watching her demo on repainting the dolls. She even was sweet enough to repaint my missing Dina’s missing eyebrow. It looked just like the factory did it! She also was coaching me at rerooting. Since I have a passion for Kerry and ooak dolls. I just loved her ooak Kerry as a brunette! I could look at that doll for hours. I am so priveledged to own her 2003 outfit that she made for Crissy. I would have loved to see her again at the get together but she had not returned. We will meet in heaven some day!. Sorry this is so late I tried to post before but for some reason it came back to me. God bless
    Anthony

I am so sorry to hear of Perla’s passing. She and I were very good friends for a few years. We used to chat every day. She made me so many outfits for my dolls. Not only did she sew outfits for me but she shared a special recipe with me for a Cuban dish “ropa vieja”. I will cherish that recipe and think of her whenever I make it. She was such a wonderful and thoughtful person. She was always so cheery and easy to talk to. Im so sorry that we lost touch. I just found out tonight that she passed away. My deepest condolences to her family. Linda Horta

Suzi, We ALL miss her. I have a little place in my dollroom where I keep my treasured gifts from Perla. I know you, her family, and her kids miss her as well. She left a mark on Crissy doll history with her fashions. Trust me on that one. xoxo
